Ingrown Toe Nail

İngrown toe nail is a common painfull condition seen in great toe.A spike on the edge of toe nail cause the condition.  Following that, imflammation redness and swelling develops. Swollen area is generally very painfull and sensitive. Agranulation tissue is formed as a reaction which inturn  make the condition worse. A serous or infectious prulent discharge can be encountered in case of infection.

What causes to ingrown toe nals?

High heel and pointed shoes makes pressures on the nails and harms its growing. Nail cut technique can be wrong in most cases. Nails cut straight and if the nails are cut roundly and cut under nail folds, a spike can be left under skin which will cause the ingrown toe nail in following days. Nail trauma, funfa infections may also cause ingrown toe nail. Also, people with inverted nail edges are prone to develop ingrown toe nail.

Who needs to be more carefull about ingrown toe nails?

Paients with Diabetes,AIDs and Immun Supressive Disease and patient on Chemotheraphy should be very carefull about ingrown toe nails and must seek medical aid in case of ingrown toe nail disease.

What is the cure for ingrown toe nail?

In early onset, toes are kept in warm water 3-4 times a day. Toes should be clean and dry. Relaxed and comfortable shoes must be preferred while thightly fitted shoes are avoided. Any discharge or increase in pain and tenderness whould alert for medial attention. Orthopedic surgeon may prescribe antibiotics and also may recommend surgery. Most commonly  a nail and nail bed wedge on the ingrown site along with a wedge of skin is excised. A couple suture are put to oppose the skin to the nail. Occasionaly, orthopedic surgeon may recommend total removal of the nail.
